Lagos State Police Command recovers gunboats, military uniforms

The Lagos State Police Command says it has recovered the gunboats, military and police uniforms worn by the armed robbers who invaded commercial banks in the Agbara area of Ogun State...

PUNCH Metro had reported on Friday, November 20, that no fewer than 40 armed robbers attacked four commercial banks in the area during which a police corporal, Kadiri Aliyu, and a nursing mother were killed.

It was also later reported that four suspected members of the gang were arrested in Sapele, Delta State, by the Special Intelligence Response Team, Abuja, (SIRT), while the police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing others.

Our correspondent gathered on Monday that the two gunboats used by the robbers had been recovered by the police, and were being kept at the Area K Command, Morogbo.

The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, who confirmed the recovery, said the gunboats had broken down while the robbers were escaping, adding that the boats were abandoned on the waters.

He said, “As a result of the sizes of the gunboats, we cannot bring them to the command, but they are at the Morogbo area command. The gunboats had broken down while the robbers were escaping. When the boats broke down, they waylaid some fishermen and seized their boats as an alternative.

“Inside the gunboats, we recovered four mobile military uniforms, two mobile policemen uniforms, and a mobile phone. The SIRT is firmly on the matter, and some modest arrests have been made in Sapele, Delta State. The police are working to apprehend the other gang members.”
