The state Commandant of the Nigeria Security & Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Mr. Emmanuel Ojeniyi, who disclosed this yesterday in Uyo, said the seven convicts were among other offenders arrested in 2015.
Ojeniyi said presently that the command has thirty four (34) cases pending in court, seven cases disposed while eighteen (18) cases were abandoned due to lack of witnesses.
He added that the command also impounded two illegal mobile refineries and trucks loaded with drums of Automated Gas Oil, AGO, as well as cars and vans carrying cellophane bags used in concealing crude oil.
He attributed the recorded achievements in 2015 to collaborative effort of the command and other sister agencies especially the Navy as well as members of the public who gave useful information to the Corps on illegal activities of vandals.
Ojeniyi warned those engaged in the dastardly act to desist forthwith and look for legitimate jobs to do, adding that there would be no hiding place for them as far as Akwa Ibom State command is concerned.
“Last year we arrested so many offenders and some of the cases are still in Court. In 2016, this command will not relent in its effort to deal with those who perpetrate this dastardly act. Our officers are competent and we are going to intensify our efforts to ensure the state is rid of pipeline and electric cable vandals” he said.
