Obas In Ekiti pledge support for varsity, VC

Determined to take the Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti to greater heights in line with the dream and aspirations of its founding fathers, some monarchs in the state of Fountains of Knowledge have pledged their support to the Vice-Chancellor and the uplifting of the institution...

The traditional rulers, who are the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe; the Alara of Aramoko Ekiti, Oba Adegoke Olu Adeyemi; the Alaworoko of Iworoko Ekiti, Oba Michael Aladejana and the Olufaki of Ifaki-Ekiti, Oba J. O. Agbaje, gave the assurance in their palaces during separate visits by the Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Oye Bandele and members of the university management team to the monarchs. Oba Adejugbe, who reiterated his support for the vice-chancellor’s vision of utilising the large expanse of the university’s land for commercial agriculture, promised to assist the institution by preventing land speculators from disrupting the project or tampering with the land.

Besides, the monarch assured the vice-chancellor and the entire university community of his support and that of the people of Ado-Ekiti, one of the host communities of adequate support to achieve the vision of transforming the university. The vice-chancellor, who had earlier told the monarch that he would need his support in boosting the university’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), said that the proposed commercial agriculture would be a priority in that direction.

Bandele appealed to the traditional ruler to use his position to persuade those creating tension on the university land to desist from such practice, saying their activities could only bring setback to the institution’s developmental strides. Meanwhile, the Alara of Aramoko Ekiti, Oba Adeyemi promised to put his weight behind all steps taken by the vicechancellor to improve the university, even as the monarch stressed that as the Chancellor of the university, he would do everything within his capacity to work with the vice-chancellor in ensuring that the entire university community is peaceful.

He, therefore, challenged the vicechancellor on the need to use his wealth of experience as the former Vice-Chancellor of the defunct University of Education, Ikere-Ekiti (TUNEDIK) and the University of Science and Technology, Ifaki-Ekiti (USTI) to broaden the horizon of the Ekiti State University.
