No fewer than 12 persons have been killed in an auto crash in the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.
It was gathered that the accident occurred at about 10am on Wednesday when a trailer marked, XA905BBJ, rammed into a Volkswagen with number plate, FUG833AA, and a 14-seater Toyota Hiace after its (trailer) brake failed, killing 12 of the passengers in the bus...
The bus, marked BEN621YY, was said to be on its way to Benin when the fatal crash occurred.
A source said, “A crowd of sympathisers thronged the scene of the accident as motorists and other passengers made efforts to rescue some of the trapped victims.
“However, many of the victims died a few minutes after they were brought out of the affected vehicle.”
When contacted, the state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Oluwasusi Familoni, said eight persons died in the crash, while nine others sustained injuries.
He also said the remains of the deceased had been deposited in a morgue.
“The dead bodies were deposited in a mortuary in Benin. The injured were taken to Enoma Medical Centre and the Centre Hospital, Benin,” Familoni added.
