Segun Mimiko has betrayed progressives’ ideals – TAC boss

The Director-General of the Directorate of Technical Aide Corps, Dr. Pius Osunyinkanmi, has said he parted ways with his erstwhile friend and political mentor, Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State, because the governor has allegedly betrayed progressives’ ideals...

Osunyinkanmi stated that the governor had developed what he described as an “emperor complex” and was no longer driven by the desire to serve the masses.

The DG, who spoke in an interview with journalists on Monday in Abuja, said he did not defect from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress because of political interest, but because of “Mimiko’s failure to remain faithful to the tenets and principles the progressives are known for.”

Osunyinkanmi stated that within the progressives’ movement, there was no room for an emperor, adding that individual voices must be heard irrespective of their social or economic status and must be respected.

Accusing Mimiko of nepotism and other vices, Osunyinkanmi said it was also a cardinal principle in the progressives’ group that nepotism was neither a part nor sides of the coin.

The DG said he refused to subjugate himself to the “emperor tendencies” of the governor, which he said, eventually led to his defection to the APC with his supporters.

Osunyinkanmi further accused the governor of not empowering Ondo citizens.

He said, “Mimiko has betrayed the progressives’ ideals, which he was known for; he has now assumed an emperor-like complex, which is alien to the progressives’ ideals. We came to power on the basis of the people; that the plight of the people will be our plight; that on no condition would anybody in Ondo State go to bed hungry; that whatever we would do will be in the interest of the vast majority of the people of Ondo State.

“But the governor has deviated from these ideals and I can no longer subject myself to a governor, who has departed from the trajectory of development and democracy.”

The Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, declined to react to the accusations, saying, “The governor has directed that we should not take issue with Osunyinkanmi.”
